Kilombero Sugar’s K4 Mill team, together with employees from across various departments, joined in commemorating World Environment Day through a series of coordinated environmental, health, and safety initiatives aimed at reinforcing the company’s sustainability agenda. The activities included a structured environment and safety awareness session, facility-wide clean-up exercises, and tree-planting initiatives conducted within company premises.
The programme reflected the company’s continued commitment to integrating environmental stewardship into its day-to-day operations. The commemoration brought together staff from multiple business functions, underscoring a culture of shared accountability in advancing sustainable practices and maintaining safe and environmentally responsible workplaces.
The event was attended by Kilombero Sugar Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Director, Mr. Jan Opperman, alongside representatives from various operational units within the organisation. Speaking during the engagement, management reaffirmed that environmental sustainability remains a strategic priority for Kilombero Sugar, embedded within its operational framework and aligned with global best practices in responsible manufacturing.
The clean-up activities and tree-planting exercise formed part of the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental management systems, enhance workplace safety, and minimise environmental impact across its operations.
