The Farm Manager - Agronomy is responsible for providing direction and technical guidance on crop varieties, crop nutrition, crop protection (weed control and Pest + Disease control) and irrigation to ensure long-term optimization of yield and cost of production as well as promoting and supporting the embedding of agronomic best practices for Country agriculture teams

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support adoption and embedding of agreed best practices, frameworks, minimum standards and processes for agronomy and crop production teams.
• Support in implementation and management of sugarcane agronomic trials as required by the head of agricultural optimization as part of a continuous productivity initiative.
• Participate in training of farm teams on sugarcane husbandry practices or activities from planting to harvesting.
• Participate in the management of Estate nursery fields, monitor seed quality, and ensure regular disease inspections are carried out as per schedules
• Conduct surveys of all commercial and nursery fields, for pests and diseases, and communicate infestation/infection levels to the relevant parties
• Ensure all agronomic data is captured for trend analysis, reporting and decision making.
• Support agronomic optimization by adopting new technologies and methods and ensure continuous improvement by implementing best practices and conducting regular system checks.
• Participate in developing new SOPs per requirements and assure performance against agronomy-related SOPs
• Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)

Minimum Requirements:

• BSc in Agronomy, General Agriculture or equivalent from a recognized institution
• 2+ years’ experience in sugar cane agriculture
• Above average computer literacy

Introduction:
We are looking for a young, dynamic and result-oriented person to fill the position of Manager in Training (MIT) in the Company’s Estate Agriculture Department. The successful candidate will be developed through a special in-house training programme that has been specifically developed to equip trainees with the relevant and necessary agricultural competencies, functional expertise and management skills. Upon successful completion of the training programme and good performance, candidates may stand a chance to be engaged with the Company on a permanent basis.
Programme Background:
The MIT Development Programme is a structured development tool that guides the MIT’s learning pathway as they journey from graduate to manager. This programme is intended to:

• Introduce MITs to the Sugar Industry and KSCL
• Provide MITs with all the technical, leadership and business exposure required to be a manager in their field of expertise in KSCL once they exit the programme. The programme has a ‘technical’ section that builds the competencies required in KSCL in the MIT’s field of expertise e.g., Engineering, Agriculture, Commercial
• Prepare participants for appointment to a permanent position on successful completion of the programme
• Exit the candidate as a competent leader with a solid practical grounding, able to make a significant contribution to achieving company objectives and taking the company successfully into the future.

• To support the transition of the MIT from a learning institution to the world of work
• Connect the MIT to other people in the business
• Develop technical proficiency, business acumen and leadership skills

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science in the Agricultural Field, with emphasis on Geographic, Environmental and GIS disciplines.
• Experience of geo-referenced information management systems for sugarcane will be an added advantage. 
• Good business acumen and agricultural expertise, with ability to anticipate, interpret and respond to changes impacting on functional area
• Working knowledge of cartography and relevant tools and software
• Strong agriculture data analysis skills
• Overall desire to learn and adapt to new concepts

Job Purpose
To repair company vehicles, trailers, implements farm machinery and mobile irrigation pumps to agreed set standards by using hand tools, manuals and other workshop equipment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Carries out repairs to company vehicles/farm machinery, trailers, implements etc. according to repair specifications. 
• Conducting preventive maintenance/alternate service to company vehicles/farm machinery, trailer, implement, etc. according to manufacturer’s specifications.
• Carries out vehicle test and report any fault/findings to LDV & TRUCK Maintenance Foreman.
• Co-operate with management to enable them to perform their duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Perform all tasks with “awareness” towards the prevention of any forms of pollution to the surrounding and environment.
• Ensures that all operations are carried out as per the ISO 9001: 2000 Quality Management System at Kilombero Sugar to achieve the quality standards.
• Maintains a clean working environment with proper housekeeping.

Job Qualification and Experience

• Trade Test Grade II in Automotive Mechanics
• Form Four secondary Certificate
• At least 2 years’ experience as a Mechanic
• Valid driving license

Job Purpose
To produce the amount of alcohol that meets product specifications, by operating the Fermentation plant units in the field in conjunction with the Distillation Operator and other Operators.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitors the performance and operates the Fermentation plant units and any additional plant areas as required) on a continual shift basis using on-plant measurements to produce the required quantity and quality of alcohol in the Fermented wash.
• Makes adjustments and alterations to the process variables in conjunction with the Distillation Operator, to ensure that the plant units are operating as per procedure to produce the required alcohol quantity of the desired specification and quality.
• Reports all quality deviations and irregularities on process or equipment to the Distillation Operator.
• Collection of operational samples as per schedule and conducting analysis when required.
• Assisting with collection of samples on ad hoc basis.
• Assist in preparing yeast conditioning batches by adding yeast and nutrients as required for make-up into fermentation batches.
• Ensures that the vessels in the Pre-fermentation and Fermentation plant are cleaned as per prescribed procedures and ensure that there are adequate chemicals available for conducting cleaning exercises. These steps ensure that good fermentation efficiency is achieved.
• Transfer of fusel oil into fusel oil bulk storage tank.
• Ensuring that all storage tanks/pits level control is done as such to prevent overflow
• Ensuring sealing water tanks in plant units have sufficient and clean water.
• Conducting regular nosing and conducting appropriate dilution of alcohol for nosing at required Intervals.

Qualifications And Experience

• Diploma/Certificate in Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Technology or Chemical Engineering.
• Advanced Level Certificate in  Mathematics or Science.
• 1–2years of experience working in a fermentation or manufacturing environment is preferred.

Job Purpose

To ensure the correct volume and quality of all effluent leaving the Wastewater Treatment Plant meets those dictated by Tanzanian Specifications. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitors the performance of the WWTP on a continual shift basis using on-plant measurements to produce the required quantity and quality of effluent
• Makes adjustments and alterations to the process variables in conjunction with the Production Team Lead, to ensure that the WWTP is operating as per procedure to produce the required effluent quantity of the desired specification.
• Solves process problems and deviations by taking the appropriate corrective action to meet throughput and quality targets.
• Monitors plant profiles after analysis and take corrective action to maintain effluent quality. Captures required data on log sheets.
• Conducts visual checks and inspections of the WWTP and associated utilities.
• Together with the Production Team Lead, diagnose the cause of problems/breakdowns by troubleshooting.
• Calibrates the dosage rate of chemicals in the WWTP on an adhoc basis to ensure that usage is within budget.
• Responsible for shutting down and starting up the WWTP as per procedure.
• Adheres to safety procedures, maintains the plants housekeeping, quality and environmental standards.
• Trains, as required, plant personnel on the operations within the WWTP.
• Takes on the role of a safety watch during plant shutdowns after hours to ensure that personnel (especially contractors) adhere to the company’s safety standards.
• Ensure that all treatment processes (physical, chemical, biological) are functioning correctly to meet environmental regulations.
• Carries out any other duties relating to the plant.

Qualifications And Experience

• Diploma in Environmental Technology, Water Quality, or Wastewater Technology certification or a related field.
• Advanced Level Certificate with Mathematics and Science
• Basic math, chemistry, and biology knowledge will add the advantages
• 1-2 years of experience working in wastewater treatment plants or related environments..       
• Experience in fertiliser business development or sales is preferred and an added advantage
