Job Purpose
To drive embedding of the “Kilombero Way of Optimisation” by implementing world class practices to optimise production and maintenance, develop the relevant Optimisation strategy with a view towards long term growth, optimal efficiency and sustainability as well as to audit and analyse production systems & processes with the aim of uncovering inefficiencies.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop in-Country medium- and long-term Manufacturing (Production and Maintenance) Optimisation Strategy with objective of effectively optimizing performance and cost of production.
• Drive optimisation by driving initiatives that will deliver products at cost and quality levels that drive profitability.
• Drive operational excellence by implementing optimisation initiatives and supporting problem resolution.
• Identify, generate business case, motivate, plan and manage implementation of capital projects, ensuring required economic and community outcomes are delivered on time.
• Reduce system inefficiencies by analysing and maximising system performance (Reliability, Recovery, efficiencies, costs etc.) through application of continuous improvement tools and best practices such as RCA, LOP.
• Drive synergies across the Group, effectively partnering with Group counterparts to identify, share and embed opportunities for production & reliability optimisation.
• Provide expertise on production & reliability issues, support and advise on solutions.
• Set direction, implement and monitor continuous improvement by driving work practices, and ensuring that tools and techniques are being applied to optimise operations and deliver high quality products made in a safe and sustainable manner.
• Lead People Capability building identification, prioritization and implementation to optimise performance, realise full potential and maintain a state of operational readiness.
• Develop all production & Supply Side plans and monitoring of compliance to plans, in conjunction with S&OP.
• Drive rigorous performance management, biased towards rewarding strong performance and compliance with critical behaviours, including managing consequences where required.
• Conduct regular internal and external benchmarking exercises to identify and develop Production best practices and improvement opportunities.
• Manage and coordinate sharing of identified best practices, learnings, quick wins, frameworks and minimum standards within function across entities and through the Head Office platform, and provide additional opportunities for problem identification, knowledge sharing and collaboration.
• Custodian of manufacturing and laboratory information systems required for operational modelling, production reconciliation and business performance monitoring and leading the use of data for optimization decisions.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with key maintenance & engineering service providers.
• Build a strong technical team and talent pipeline for Manufacturing Optimisation through ongoing coaching, mentoring, guidance and technical training, using this platform to drive technical excellence in the production and maintenance teams.
• Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues
• Ensure enablers are in place to promote success (e.g. systems and processes)
• Management of technical standards, MOPS, TOPS, process specifications, best practices and policies and the governance thereof.

Job Requirements.

• Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree.
• Business / Financial qualification would be an advantage.
• 8-10 years in Sugar Manufacturing (production and/or maintenance).
• Continuous improvement of knowledge and experience.
• Familiarity with Kilombero systems would be an advantage (SAP).
• Good business acumen and manufacturing expertise, with ability to anticipate, interpret and respond to changes impacting on functional area.
• Strong track record in management and leadership.
• Inquisitive mind.
• Strong data analysis skills.

Job Purpose: 
The successful candidate will be responsible to Unhooking and Hooking bulk bags/1ton bags at a loading bay.

Specific Job responsibilities:

• Once crane stopped on the loading bay, hook the 1ton bag and ensure bag well secured as required.
• Remove 1ton bag handle from the crane hook during offloading.
• Scan the 1ton bags with scanner when receiving/offloading sugar from k2 before stacking.
• Scan 1ton bags when stacking for respective bay unit and during destacking for decanting.
• Ensuring housekeeping is done properly on his working area.
• Contribute to problem solving during CI meetings by identifying areas for improvement and making suggestions.
• Ensure that work is done to the relevant safety standards.

Job Purpose:
The successful candidate will be responsible to operate gantry crane machines.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

• Stacking and De-staking of 1ton sugar bags as per procedure.
• ensure Checking looseness on foundation bolts, Rail way and report deviations to avoid Loads falling from height and report deviation to Foreman
• Check the chain hook and pulley of the crane if they are in good condition and report deviations to Foreman.
• Check lubrication and condition of the hoisting rope and report deviations to Foreman.
• Responsible for inspecting the Machine through Climb up the ladder into the driving cabin of the crane and report any damage or deviation observed.
• Assist in breakdown or maintenance work as assigned.
• Ensure a proper handing over at the end of the shift.
• Switch the crane off and ensure that the hook is in a safe position at end of shift.

Job Purpose:

•  Plan and supervise the daily work and performance of each employee on assigned shift, organize schedules, and assign work activity to achieve team and company objectives safely

•   Completed necessary training modules for area of responsibility e.g. Packing Station / Foreman Training Programme at the Illovo Technical Academy.

Job purpose 

The successful candidate will be responsible to operate all production equipment within the layout at the set speeds and outputs according to SHERQ and SOP standards.  Also to prepare packing materials in the packing station at the beginning of the shift. Perform fine tune settings on all the equipment within the packing line to maintain optimal throughput and quality.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

•   Perform regular calibration of weighing systems in the packing line
• Perform fault finding on electrical and mechanical faults and carry out repairs such as the replacement of motors, belts, shafts, pulleys etc.
• Carry out regular quality control processes and checks in the packing line
•  Inspect equipment, according to procedures, in order to identify current and potential future faults
• Isolate & de-isolate specific production equipment according to procedures.
• Carry out adjustments and corrections to operating equipment to maintain equipment performance settings. Restoring equipment to standard conditions is a key part of the role.
• Conduct safe & effective handovers covering all necessary safety, quality and operational issues.
• Take samples and complete associated documentation.
• Perform basic care activities and assigned autonomous maintenance e.g. lubrication, adjustment and minor replacement tasks.
• Assist Reliability Foreman with supervised work, where the tasks are categorised as ‘owned’ by Reliability Foreman.
• Identify the key losses on the line e.g. waste, downtime, safety issues, quality problems and energy and propose improvements to processes and standards to reduce or prevent future losses.
• In line with lean & six sigma approach, participate in and lead improvement activities e.g. logistics through 5 why linked to plant and systems losses
• Train and coach others in area of expertise

Minimum Job Requirement: 

•  Diploma in electrical control or programming or similar technical qualification
• Three years’ experience in packing in a quality focused and performance driven factory environment, ideally operating large scale automated machinery (preferred)
• Experience in Siemens PLC an advantage
• Ability to work well in a team, having great fault finding and problem-solving skills in a fast-moving production environment
•  Experience in technical and CI processes e.g. changeovers, handovers, improvement activities and other (preferred)
